Students will learn different techniques to learn how to paint. K-8th grade.

Students will experiment with different textures as they create a "touch and feel" collage using different materials and make a texture print using household items!

Note:  This class was originally schedule at the Salem Education Center, but was moved to Centralia due to the flood damage at the Salem location.

Future archeologists gather for this exciting class where we will travel to the ancient pyramids of Egypt to uncover the secrets that lie beneath the dirt!

The Mental Health Magic program is a one-of-a-kind experience. This specific program is not being presented anywhere else in the country. Professor Longhair, AKA Randy Thompson, B.A., MHP, has been a community mental health counselor for 35 years. He applies his experience and knowledge about mental health topics and blends that with his interest in performing Magical Illusions. In this class, magic tricks will be performed and then the mental health concept behind the illusions will be discussed briefly by Randy. Then, a group discussion will follow. This is a fun, interactive, and professionally guided approach for the discussion of serious mental health issues. The topics include Problem Solving, Communication, Perceptions, Self Esteem, Coping With Bullying, and Grief, Change, and Loss. He has presented this for several years with great success. Now is the perfect time for children and teens to learn and practice ways to feel more comfortable with expressing their thoughts and feelings about the emotions that they experience in a safe and supportive atmosphere with professional guidance.

Embark on an exciting journey into the world of rocketry! In this class, participants will learn about the science behind rockets and the basics of flight, propulsion, and aerodynamics. Students will then have the opportunity to design, build, and launch their own rockets. This class offers a fun and educational experience for students interested in science, engineering, construction, and design. Join us as we explore the wonders of aerospace and watch our creations take flight!

Automotive Technology Career Exploration For Ages 11–15 

Get your hands dirty and your gears turning at this exciting Automotive Technology Career Exploration event! Designed for students ages 11–15, this hands-on session introduces the basics of car care and vehicle maintenance in a fun, engaging environment.

Held in Kaskaskia College’s brand-new Automotive Lab, participants will learn the fundamentals of automotive technology—including how to check fluids, identify engine components, and even take part in a real oil change. Guided by experienced instructors, students will explore what it’s like to work in the automotive industry and get a glimpse into future career opportunities.

Perfect for young car enthusiasts or anyone curious about how things work under the hood!

Mad About Matter is a hands-on science camp designed for curious kids in 1st through 3rd grade! Campers will explore the amazing world of solids, liquids, and gases through fun experiments like dancing raisins, homemade lava lamps, and even fizzy root beer floats. Each day is packed with exciting activities, creative challenges, and silly science fun that brings the states of matter to life!  

Learn the art of creating your own greeting cards! Let your creative and imaginative side come to life as you create designs for your cards and then you can gift them to your friends and family!  Each student will also pay a $30 fee directly to the instructor for supplies and materials.
